Story:
Marc led the young stallion around, a bit away from the show ring. The big grey pulled on the lead, wanting to rub on his handler, but otherwise walked politely beside him. Marc glanced over to the holding ring where Vera was having a hell of a time trying to handle Disco. He had insisted on switching horses, saying that even while Reno was younger than the his uncle, he was far easier to handle and much better suited for Vera. Vera, however had taken this as an insult towards her ability to handle horses and refused to switch. Ruefully, he watched as the black stallion leaped into the air once again as a horse trotted by. Marc turned his attention back to Reno and, halting him, gave him a quick, appraising once over. The Stallion stopped and squared up - he was clumsy and green and shuffled a little, having stepped on his own foot. Despite his inexperience, he regarded his handler with kind, sparkling eyes, wishing to please - or maybe to get a good scratch on Marc when he turned his back, it was hard to tell which. The stallion was obviously out of shape, the long winter he'd had off had made him slender without the addition of muscle tone. They had done everything they could to keep him from acquiring a hay belly, but in his present state, he resembled a well-bred thoroughbred. He had yet to be started properly, a fact that annoyed Marc immensely. Sure, Vera had hopped on him bareback once or twice and walked him around, but that hardly counted as broken. Marc reached up to stroke the grey's ear, silently promising to remedy that when they returned home. He led the colt up towards the arena where Ellie was finishing up her class. The mare glowed with self-pride and her powerful presence was hard to overlook. After a short time, the music stopped and he nodded to Charlotte as she quitted the arena. He led the grey colt into the ring, and felt the horse lean into him somewhat, as if requesting his support. He laughed inwardly wondering if the horse had suddenly gotten stage fright. He unhooked the stallion and had to shoo him away in order to get him going. All at once, the music started and he watched as the young horse explored the ring. Even though he wasn't in his best condition, it was indeed lucky for him he was gifted with such breathtaking movement. Marc decided, at least while he kept moving, he looked as good as any horse there.
